Messy Bun Pick Set of 2 ('Ulu/Breadfruit + Taro/Kalo)

Tidepool Love

My new 'Ulu (Breadfruit) and Taro (Kalo) drawings comes to life in this sturdy hair accessories! The "fork" or "pick" easily slides into your bun, pony tail or up-do. Hand forged and hammered out of strong brass, this piece is then heavily plated with 14k gold. The Hawaiian 'ulu was the staple food for Hawaiians. Every part of the 'ulu plant was used in Old Hawaii including the sap for "glue" use in Canoe building. In modern day, the 'ulu fruit and large leaf is seen commonly in quilt patterns and in textile use because the distinctive round fruit and full leaves are so recognizable in the Hawaiian Islands. The Taro (or Kalo) is another Native plant that the Native Hawaiians felt represented their ancestors, their 'ohana (family) and life itself. A staple in the Hawaiian diet, the Kalo was central to the farming and agriculture of Hawai'i.  These Messy Bun Picks can be used in any up-do...a high pony tail or bun. They are truly a labor of love, with each "pick" hand-formed and hammered in sturdy brass. The leaf or flower/plant is carved and cast just like our jewelry is then soldered to the "pick". Time consuming and made one-by-one, we only have these available on our website in limited quantities. During our Native Hawaiian Plant Month Celebration save 40% off this Native Plant set!! Regularly $45 each, this set of two would be $90.00 but during the sale get both for only $54.00, while supplies last.
